In addition to our full-time campus-based TEFL / TESOL programs, we offer an online ESL teacher certification program which takes approximately 11 weeks to complete.
The online TEFL / TESOL course is designed for students who wish to Teach English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) internationally in a professional environment. It is a fully interactive course taught by a seasoned university level professor and consists of 150 class hours and 20 hours of teaching practice at a local ESL classroom in your home town.
Our course and curriculum is part of the INTESOL Worldwide network and accredited by NCFE (Northern Council for Further Education), one of the leading accrediting bodies in the UK, and ODLQC (Open and Distance Learning Quality Council). At the School of English in Queen's University in Kingston, on the northern shore of Lake Ontario, in Ontario, Eastern Canada, we offer a course in the field of Teaching English as a Second Language (TESL). The International TESL Training Program (ITESL) is a full-time program designed for English-as-a-Second Language teachers who work in non-English speaking environments. The ITESL course provides ESL teachers with the following focused elements of study:
■ classes in oral/aural communication competency,
■ further development of the latest communicative TESL teaching methodologies,
■ a refined understanding of the influence of culture upon the study of language and
■ supervised independent study
ITESL candidates will experience English-immersion in the Canadian context while learning about various aspects of Canadian culture by participating in activities and field trips.
The ITESL course is open to groups and/or institutions. We regret that this course is not open to individual applicants at this time.
Here at the Queen's School of English, we offer one TESL course. The International Teaching English as a Second Language Training Program (ITESL) is a full-time program aimed at international teachers of English for whom English is a second language, and includes a wide variety of techniques and strategies for teaching ESL using an integrated, communicative approach.

The University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada is a is a coeducational public research university offering a distance-delivered university-based Certificate in Teaching English as a Second Language (CERTESL) Program that can be taken from anywhere in the world. Some courses may be taken on campus. Students who complete the on-campus Summer TEFL Intensive at the U of Sask. may be eligible for transfer credit and an application bursary.
